Frequently Asked Questions

Read the online help file that we have made available to our residents within the Anxiety Neighborhood talker; simply type help when logged on.

Q. What software do I need to connect to Anxiety Neighborhood?

A. You can connect to the neighborhood via our user-friendly telnet or java applet links on our homepage if your browser can handle java and your Internet provider has telnet capabilities. Most residents prefer to connect using a GMud program. This program can be downloaded free from here: GMud32

Q. I am so frustrated! I read all there is to read, but I still don’t understand what I need to do to connect to Anxiety Neighborhood. Is there any hope for me?

A.

We believe there is :-) Simply Email Us! and include the following information in your request:

  1. Put "CONNECTION HELP" in the subject header to make sure your query is directed properly.
  2. Indicate HOW you are trying to connect (from a shell account, MUD/Telnet client, or java applet, & what you are doing)
  3. The nature of your problem
Our resident volunteer(s) will help you get connected. If you have other technical concerns they may be able to help you with them too or direct you to a person who can.

Q. I downloaded GMud and connected to Anxiety Neighborhood, but I can't see the whole screen. What's wrong?

A. GMud's Macro Window is keeping you from seeing the whole screen, you will need to click on VIEW, and then deselect MACRO WINDOW.

Q. I don't like the background and text colors in GMud. How can I change them?

A. Click on OPTIONS and then COLORS and/or FONTS to set the colors as you like. A very attractive setting is a black background with a light grey font. With this setting the colors in the ASCII art really stand out.

Q. I'm using GMud and I see there are features such as triggers, macros, aliases, etc. Is there any help available so I can learn to use these features?

A. Your best bet, after reading the help file that comes with GMud, is to either ask another resident in AN or post your question on the News system.

Q. How do I know who is logged into AN ?

A. To discover who is logged on at the same time as you simply type the word where or the letter w. You will see a table that contains the name of the residents who are logged on and which room in AN they are in. If you discover you are the only one logged on, please do not log off, but be patient and it won't be long and someone else may log on. While you wait, read through the online help file, explore, or have fun playing the games that are available.

Q. I am logged onto Anxiety Neighborhood and I need help! Where can I find it?

A. The first thing you should do is read the help file (just type the word help). We encourage our residents to first help themselves as best they can before asking for help from staff or other residents.

Q. How do I know who staff are?

A. Type staff and you will get a list of all current staff. Type lsu and a list of staff who are currently logged on will appear.

Q. I'm a resident but I can't connect! HELP!

A.

There will occasionally be times when you just can't connect:

Q. How do I subscribe to AN's Mailing List?

A. To be placed on the mailing list, you need to sign up to become an Anxiety Neighborhood resident and then e-mail debbles@dune.net and ask to be placed on the mailing list.

Q. What professional organizations is Anxiety Neighborhood associated with?

A. Anxiety Neighborhood is not associated with any organization. The program is run by a core group of dedicated volunteer staff, who either have anxiety/panic disorder themselves or are a support person for someone who does.
