Using GMud to Connect to AN

GMUD is designed to facilitate interaction with a MUD server, and can be used in place of the standard telnet command.

This program requires Windows 3.1 with Win32s 1.2 or later or Windows NT or Windows 95, and Winsock to run. A 32 bit winsock client is required under Win95

Many of our residents have found GMud to be the best way to connect to our talker. Before downloading, if you're a computer novice please read through these instructions first. It may be wise to even print them so you can refer to them as you go along.


STEP ONE - Download Software

  1. First, click on the following download link: GMud32

  2. A pop-up window will appear and give you two options; click on the Save it to Disk option. Click OK.

  3. You will be asked to enter in a path or folder name where the downloaded file will be stored.

    Save the file to your desktop by clicking in the "Save In" box and highlighting "Desktop" or create a new folder by clicking on the the create new folder icon and type in the new name GMud32.

  4. The download will begin. When finished, you should get a box that says "Open" and "Open Folder". Click on the "Open" box.


STEP TWO - Start GMud

  1. IF you did not Open the file after the download, and you saved the file to your desktop, go to your desktop, and Click on the GMUD icon. If you did not save the file to your desktop, use the Windows Explorer or the "Find" or "Search" feature to locate it on your computer. Click OK.

  2. This will deflate the self-extracting file.

  3. Now locate the GMud program file, GMud32.exe and start it. If you cannot find it using Windows Explorer, use the "Find" or "Search" feature.


STEP THREE - Configuring GMud for AN

Most of the following has already been entered for you, but this is good to review.
  1. Click on Edit and then Worlds.

  2. Click on the Add button and a window opens displaying "Enter a name for the new world.".

  3. Type in AN and click OK.

  4. Enter in the following information as illustrated below:
      Host Name: dune.net
      Port: 3010
      Description: whatever you want or leave blank
      Text to output upon connect: leave blank for now

  5. Click on the Exit button.

STEP FOUR - Connecting to AN

  1. Click on File and then Connect.

  2. Select AN under MUD name and then click on the Connect button.

  3. You are now in Anxiety Neighborhood. Congratulations! If you want, you can setup GMud to operate however you like (ie. background color, font, etc.)


Some basic settings include:

  • click on View and have only the Status Bar selected

  • click on Options and select Screen Wrap and enter in the following:
          Wrap to Screen, Word, and Indent wrapped lines by 2 spaces

  • click on Options and select Color and enter the following options:

  • click on Options and select Font and enter the following options:
          Font: Fixedsys
          Font Style: Regular
          Size: 9

  • click on Options and make sure a check mark does NOT appear next to Local Echo

After you have become a resident, you may want to go back to the "Connect To MUD Server" screen and in the Text to output upon connect section enter the following information:
      character name
      password

By providing this info, you can login quickly as GMud32 will enter your character name and password for you.
